  • This is the first ever four door model from Mercedes-AMG
  • It will be offered with two engine options; A V8 and a 6-cylinder unit
  • The V8 engine option will be offered in two states of tune

After a long wait, Mercedes-AMG finally took the wraps off its first 4-door AMG GT at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. As is evident, the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe draws inspiration from the SLS AMG and the more recent AMG GT models. This is yet another model that has been completely designed and developed by AMG, which is the performance arm of Mercedes-Benz. The core idea behind developing a 4-door coupe is to offer practicality and performance at the same time. AMG says that this is something which could be used as a daily ride as well and will be a hoot to drive on a racetrack at the same time.

The styling of the AMG 4-Door Coupe has been derived from the AMG GT, with the Panamericana grille up front and the signature long, low bonnet. The difference comes in with the longer wheelbase and the set of extra doors at rear on each side. The 4-door coupe looks deadly, but the engine specs are going to be even deadlier. Here they are!

Mercedes-AMG will be offering two engine options on the AMG GT 4-Door coupe. The 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine will be offered in two states of tune. The first one will make 639 bhp and 900 Nm of peak torque and do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.2 seconds. Its top speed will be 315 kmph. The slightly de-tuned variant of the 4.0-litre V8 biturbo will make 585 bhp and 800 Nm of peak torque. This baby will do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.4 seconds and can go up to 310 kmph. Just to re-iterate, these are four door coupes and can seat 4/5 people. Of course, if you are in the mood to cruise, the car can simply switch four cylinders out of the eight in order to maximise fuel efficiency.

The third engine option on offer will be the 3.0-litre 6-cylinder engine which is a hybrid. It makes a total of 435 bhp and 520 Nm of peak torque. The engine is also fitted with an electric motor which boosts the power output by 22 bhp and 250 Nm of additional torque. The AMG GT 4-Door coupe, with this engine, touches a maximum of 285 kmph and has a 0-100 kmph sprint time of 4.5 seconds.

Further enhancing the performance credentials of the AMG GT 4-Door coupe are the standard all-wheel drive system with limited slip differential at the rear axle. The car gets a 'drift mode' as standard on the 'S' variant and is optional on all other variants. In the drift mode, all the power churned out is sent to the rear wheels. Also on offer is the active rear-wheel steering, which is standard on the V8 models and optional on the six-cylinder model. Up to a speed of 100 kmph, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction as opposed to the front wheels which allows the car to have better turn-in and reduces the turning radius, thereby offering better stability. At speed of above 100 kmph, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels, offering more grip and better response.

Coming to the interior, the car gets two 12.3-inch displays in the cockpit. This is standard for the V8 models and optional for the six-cylinder variant. These include the infotainment system, connectivity options and other operation controls for the car. Mercedes-AMG will also offer options in rear seating, for two passengers or three passengers, with a bench seat or two individual seats. Mercedes-AMG will also be offering partial autonomous driving ability on the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe as well.

The company will start delivering the first orders of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe in the summer of 2018, which is just around the corner. This car goes up against the Porsche Panamera.
