Honda Achieves 35 Million Two-Wheelers Production Milestone In India

- HMSI launched its the first model, the Honda Activa scooter in 2001
- Honda entered the motorcycle market in 2004 with 150 cc CB Unicorn
- Honda has 4 plants - Manesar, Tapukara, Narsapura, and Vithalapur
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has rolled out its 35 millionth vehicle from its Tapukara manufacturing plant in Rajasthan. With the roll out of this milestone product, a Honda Activa 4G, the Japanese two-wheeler brand has become the first manufacturer in India o cross the 35-million-unit mark in just 17 years. Incidentally, Honda 2Wheelers' first standalone model, which was launched in 2001, was also the Activa scooter. Honda currently has four manufacturing plants in India - Manesar, Tapukara, Narsapura, and Vithalapur, which have together crossed the 35 million two-wheeler mark in total. While the Narsapura plant has a production capacity of 18 lakh units, the other three have a capacity of 12 lakh units.
Commenting on the company's massive milestone, Minoru Kato - President and CEO, Honda 2Wheelers India said, "Thanks to great support from customers in both India and 68 countries across the world, Honda 2Wheelers India is celebrating our 35 millionth two-wheeler landmark today. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India was officially incorporated in 1999, and two years later, in 2001, the company started production at its first manufacturing plant in Manesar, Haryana. The same year Honda 2Wheelers launched its first model Activa in India, and today it's one of the best-selling two-wheelers in India. Interestingly, Honda 2Wheelers India crossed the 10 millionth production mark in 2012, eleven years after the first product was launched. From there, it took the company only five and half years to reach the 35 millionth production milestone.
The company entered the motorcycle market with 150 cc CB Unicorn in 2004 and two years later launched its popular commuter motorcycle, the 125 cc CB Shine. In 2012, the company launched its first 110 cc commuter bike - the Honda Dream Yuga followed by an array of motorcycles and scooters. Currently, Honda 2Wheelers has a strong portfolio of 24 models over 5,700 authorised touch-points across India. In November 2017, the company launched its all-new 125 cc premium scooter the Honda Grazia and introduce its all-new 160 cc street bike, X-Blade, based on the Hornet, at the Auto Expo in February 2018.
