Hyundai Alcazar Three-Row SUV Launch Date Announced; Bookings Open

- Hyundai Alcazar will be launched in India on June 18, 2021
- It is a three-row version of the Hyundai Creta
- It will be offered with 6 or 7 seats
After significant delays due to the second wave of the pandemic, Hyundai Motor India will launch the Alcazar SUV on June 18, 2021. The Alcazar is essentially a three-row version of the second-generation Hyundai Creta and will be offered as a 6 and 7-seater SUV. For the uninitiated, Alcazar is a name for Portuguese or Spanish Moorish castles. The company announced the commencements of bookings for the Alcazar and a good measure of popularity will be the number of bookings that the company receives before the prices are actually announced.

Being a car with three rows, the Alcazar gets a wheelbase of 2,760 mm, which is 150 mm more than that of the Creta. So, one can expect decent amount of room for third row passengers. The Alcazar is likely to be loaded with a host of smart features like - a 10.25-inch infotainment display, Bose sound system, Air purifier with AQI display, a retractable table for second-row passengers, new sliding sun visor, rear window sunshade, and side footstep.

Visually, the Alcazar shares most of its design and styling cues with the Creta, however, we get to see some differentiating elements in the form of a new cascading grille, slightly restyled LED headlights, along with an updated bumper and fog lamps. In terms of engine options, the Alcazar is likely to get both petrol and diesel units. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre unit churning out 157 bhp and 191 Nm of torque. The diesel unit, on the other hand, is a 1.5-litre unit that is capable of pushing out 113 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. Both engines will be offered with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The new Alcazar uses 75 per cent high strength and advanced high strength steel in its construction
The Hyundai Alcazar will primarily go up against the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the upcoming second generation Mahindra XUV 500 and we expect the prices to settle between Rs. 15 and 20 lakh across at least three trims on each fuel type. To give you an idea of the variants, the Hyundai Creta has five trims on sale - E, ES, S, SX and SX(O). Of course, each trim is available with either a petrol or a diesel engine. Throw in choices for automatic gearboxes too and the total number of variants goes up to more than 15.
