Hyundai Verna's new base variant starts at Rs 7.17 lakh

In a bid to revive its dropping sales, the Hyundai Verna has now been introduced in a new GL trim which comes with both, the petrol and diesel engine options. The GL petrol is priced at Rs 7.17 lakh, while the diesel variant of the comes at a price of Rs 8.35 lakh (ex-showroom). This new trim has replaced the old base trim of the Verna.
Besides adding this new trim to the line-up, Hyundai has also discontinued a total six variants of the Verna - 3 petrol and 3 diesel. The 1.6-litre VTVT engine which comes equipped with the automatic variants of the Verna - SX (O) and EX have been discontinued. The company has also phased out the 1.6-litre Automatic, 1.4-litre CRDi EX, and the base 1.4-litre petrol and diesel variants. The new GL trim now becomes the base variant for both the petrol and diesel range.
Powering the GL petrol and diesel are the 1.4-litre VTVT and 1.4-litre CRDi units, producing 105bhp, 138Nm and 89bhp and 224Nm, respectively. While the petrol engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, the diesel comes with a six-speed transmission.

Since, it's the base variant of the sedan, it misses out on several safety features like ABS with EBD, rear disc brakes, rear parking sensors, speed sensing door lock and few others.
