Japanese Students Build Suzuki Jimny Five-Door Monster Truck

- Japanese students built the one-off Jimny five-door adding rear doors
- The platform was stretched by 400 mm to add the second row
- The Jimny 5-door got more off-road specific upgrades with a lift kit
The current generation Suzuki Jimny is one of the most eagerly awaited offerings in India and globally too, it is a highly sought-after vehicle. The little off-roader sure has us excited, especially with the more practical five-door version expected to be introduced in India as well. While the official launch is still some time away, some students in Japan decided to give us a glimpse of what the five-door Jimny would look like with their own monster creation. Quite the case of David turning into Goliath here.

The platform has been stretched by 400 mm while the body was cut in half to fit the extra doors and a rear-quarter glass
The Suzuki Jimny four-door monster truck has been developed by the students of Nihon Automobile College (NATS) and they showcased the same at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. No prizes for guessing but this is a one-off creation and not what the production version would look like. The completely customised project has been named the Jimny Kimun Kamui and saw eight students work on the 2019 Jimny Sierra as the base model. The platform was stretched by 400 mm to add the second row, while the body was cut in half to fit the extra doors and a rear-quarter glass.
The rear doors are fairly smaller compared to the front doors but do promise to improve access to the second-row seats. The rear fenders were also tweaked as part of the structural changes. The students also worked on the project to add some off-road specific changes including a new suspension set-up with a six-inch body lift, 17-inch steel wheels with Toyo off-road tyres, and an off-road bumper with an integrated winch. The model also gets a protective tubular frame around the bodywork, a roof-mounted light bar and a rooftop tent.

The custom Jimny Kimun Kamui is a one-off and the creation of eight students of the Nihon Automobile College (NATS)
Given the larger proportions, students also upgraded the engine on the Jimny Kimun Kamui. The 1.5-litre petrol engine now develops 121 bhp and 179 Nm of peak torque and has been upgraded with a turbocharger, a remapped ECU and a blow-off valve. In comparison, the stock Jimny's mill develops about 100 bhp and 138 Nm.
Meanwhile, Suzuki is working on the five-door Jimny that is expected to arrive later this year. The long-wheelbase Jimny is expected to be longer by 300 mm and will reportedly be called the 'Jimny Long' in certain global markets. At present, Suzuki India manufactures and exports the three-door Jimny from its Manesar plant to several markets overseas.
