Maruti Suzuki Teases Concept Future S Ahead Of Unveil At Auto Expo 2018

Maruti Suzuki India Limited will showcase an all new compact car design language in the form of the Concept Future S at the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo. Yes, this is yet another SUV from what we can see of the teaser image released by the company. It was at the 2016 Auto Expo that Maruti Suzuki showcased the Brezza and this year is yet another SUV. It's distinctly and distinguishingly an SUV and according to the folks at Suzuki 'the Concept Future S breaks away from the conventional proportions of a compact car.'
A few design cues from the sketch reveal an upright stance, commanding higher seating and ground clearance, horizontal hood giving it a unique aggressive stance and posture. The urban SUV image is put together by the bold and upright front, with a unique A-pillar treatment. production version of the Concept Future S will slot in below the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and yes, this means it will be another subcompact SUV from the Maruti Suzuki stable. In fact the Concept Future S will be shorter than the Brezza and this means that Maruti Suzuki engineers would have worked really hard to make sure there's good legroom in this small a car as also boot space.
CV Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, "The increasing preference for UVs and their bold architecture inspired our design team to study a new character for compact cars. ConceptFutureS could mark a distinctive shift in how compact cars are shaped and designed in India in the future." According to the Maruti Suzuki design team the Concept Future S epitomizes the next level of design evolution in terms of design proportions, body sculpting and stimulating fusion of bold patterns and superior accent colours.
Currently UVs below the Brezza are few. There are cars like the Mahindra KUV100 NXT and even the Ignis, but both have not really been able to do much in terms of sales and the crossover-ish style sees it balance itself on two rocks. With the Concept Future S, Maruti Suzuki plans to address this issue and we know it will be lightweight too because it will be based on the versatile Heartect platform. It's likely that the engines from the Ignis will be carried forward to this one. So we expect it to get the 1.2-litre K Series petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel.
