Mercedes, Ferrari Among Automakers Selling Cars With Faulty Airbags in US

- Mercedes, Daimler Vans, and Ferrari among some of such carmakers
- Affected vehicles will be subject to recalls by the end of 2018
- Manufacturers have agreed to notify buyers of the planned recalls
Unsurprisingly, safety campaigners have taken umbrage at the fact that manufacturers continue to sell vehicles which will eventually be recalled.
Senator Bill Nelson, a Florida Democrat, said the list of affected vehicles includes names such as the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and 2016-2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe/Convertible and numerous 2016 and 2017 Ferrari models including the FF, California T, 488 GTB/488 Spider, F12/F12tdf and GTC4 Lusso.

Nelson added that 7 out of the total 17 automakers he contacted have admitted to equipping some new vehicles with defective Takata airbags, including Toyota Motor Corp, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and Volkswagen AG. With that said, all manufacturers have agreed to notify buyers of the planned recalls. Interestingly, Tesla is the only automaker that has not provided a written response. It must be noted that NHTSA had said in May that the electric vehicle manufacturer will need to recall unnamed vehicles for Takata airbag inflators.
