Mercedes-Benz Partners With Laureus Sport For Good In India

- Mercedes supports Laureus Sport for Good Foundation in India
- Underprivileged girls are being trained in football by OSCAR & YUWA
- The support in sports will help the girls complete their education
Taking such an initiative is Laureus Sport for Good Foundation in India that will be helping underprivileged young women and girls to make a mark in sports. Supporting the international organisation is automaker Mercedes-Benz, which will be funding the Laureus-supported programmes - OSCAR in Mumbai and YUWA in Jharkhand.
The programmes support young girls coming from low income families facing several barriers in achieving education. OSCAR is working across eight slum commmunities in Mumbai, supporting 240 underprivileged girls and will be training them in the game of football.

The girls will be trained in football as a way to learn life skills and complete their education
The programme believes that playing sports professionally will help the girls gain confidence and life skills needed to complete their education. The project educates girls about key social and community issues through playing football and participating in specially designed interactive games.
With their families facing financial issues, it isn't uncommon to see girls withdraw from education midway or not attain one at all. With organisations providing the necessary backing, these girls can finally complete their education.

Similarly, YUWA uses football to bring social change and development in rural India and provides girls the opportunity to take responsibility for each other and as a group. The organisation also provides educational support through its on-site school.
Laureus Sport for Good will also assist OSCAR and YUWA with research, evaluation and support with their expertise in Sport for Development sector.
