Mercedes says that their new premium pickup will combine the best of two worlds - the functionality, toughness and off-road capability of a classic pick-up and the comfort and luxury of a Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Which is what Mercedes-Benz has displayed with two design variants of the concept car - The Concept X-CLASS powerful adventurer and the Concept X-CLASS stylish explorer - each displaying the two different classes respectively.

Interestingly, this all-new pick-up concept has been jointly developed by Daimler AG and Renault-Nissan Alliance and will be sold through Mercedes's passenger car division. In fact, it will share the same ladder on frame platform of the Nissan Navara and Renault Alaskan. As a part of their contract, Renault-Nissan will manufacture the pick-up for the European, Australian and South African markets at the Nissan plant in Barcelona, Spain, in 2017. The X-Class for the Latin American market, on the other hand, will roll off the assembly lines at the Renault plant in Cordoba, Argentina, starting in 2018.

Though still in the concept stage, we expect to see some of these design and styling cues in the production models as well. The production models will come with smooth design curves and the aggressive stance of a crossover-SUV and similar to the concept version, it will also feature a double cab body with a loading bay. According to Mercedes the pick-up can carry a payload of 1.1 tonne on the bay and can tow anything up to 3.5 tonne.

These concept models pack a diesel V6 under the hood along with Mercedes-Benz's signature 4Matic all-wheel drive system with an off-road ratio transfer case and differential locks for both axles. The same setup will be offered with the top-of-the-line model of the production version.

Mercedes-Benz X-CLASS Powerful Adventure Cabin
Considering the new X-Class is supposed to be a stylish truck that a worker could use on the job but still have no problem hauling the family, the pick-up will feature a well laid out cabin. The concepts themselves come with high-end materials like Nappa leather, wood veneers, and polished aluminium. There is also a smart stick-out infotainment system, round chrome accented air vents and a multi-functional steering wheel.
