Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Debut On September 7; Will Get Air Suspension, Rear-Wheel Steering

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the new all-electric GLC SUV will make its debut at the IAA Mobility motor show in Munich on September 7, 2025. Mercedes has been testing the electric GLC for over a year now on international roads, with the electric SUV being the second model after the electric G-class to not go on sale with the EQ prefix. As with the G 580 EV, the electric GLC will come with the ‘with EQ Technology’ suffix with a three-digit number assigned to the powertrain, similar to the petrol and diesel models. The first model to arrive will be the GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ Technology.

So far, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the GLC EV will be underpinned by a new 800V architecture offering charging speeds in excess of 320 kW on the top variants. Mercedes says that at peak rate, DC fast charging will be able to add up to 260 km of range in just 10 minutes. The GLC will also come with a DC converter enabling the SUV to use 400V charging stations.

Mercedes has confirmed that the GLC EV will get 4MATIC all-wheel drive with a dual electric motor set-up. The rear motor will be the primary motive unit, featuring a 2-speed gearbox, with the front motor capable of being completely decoupled using a Disconnect Unit in some situations. Mercedes says that the GLC will also feature new braking technology featuring a system that ‘combines the previously separate components of the brake booster, master cylinder and ESP control into a compact module’ to provide a ‘confident brake pedal feel.’

The new GLC EV is also expected to be physically larger than its internal combustion sibling, with Mercedes confirming an 80 mm longer wheelbase. In terms of storage, the GLC EV will offer 570 litres of boot space along with a 128-litre frunk.

Ride comfort is also set to be a notable step up over the internal combustion model. Mercedes has said that the GLC EV will get Airmatic air suspension derived from the S-class, though it remains to be seen if it will be offered as standard on select variants or as an option. Also confirmed is rear-wheel steering, which will allow the rear wheels to steer at an angle of up to 4.5 degrees.
