New Generation Audi Q5 India Launch Details Revealed

The second generation Audi Q5 SUV made its global debut at the Paris Motor Show earlier this year and the model is now all set to be introduced in the country. Audi India has announced that the all-new Q5 will be launched on January 18, 2018. This will be the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer's first launch of the year, and will replace the extremely popular current generation version. The first generation Audi Q5 was launched in India in 2011 and has aged rather gracefully over the years. This also means that those looking to get their hands on the current Q5, should look forward to healthy discounts.

The 2018 Audi Q5 is based on the flexible MLB Evo platform and mimics the design of the larger Q7. The new SUV is lighter by a good 100 kg over the predecessor and has also grown in dimensions sporting a longer wheelbase and height. The design is sharper with cleaner lines on the Q5. There's the new single-frame grille with Matrix LED headlamps and a sporty bonnet. The rear sports LED taillights, a roof mounted spoiler and a new bumper with a rear diffuser.

Upgrades are extensive on the inside as well with the second generation Audi Q5 getting a completely digital 12.3-inch instrument console. There's another touchscreen infotainment system on the centre console while the car will also come with a Heads-up Display (HUD) system. There's also the updated Audi MMI system, navigation with incorporated Google Earth and the Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system. The SUV will also come equipped with a host of electronic aids including adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, collision avoidance assist, pre-sense front and rear, park assist, blind spot warning and much more.

Under the hood, engine options will include the 2.0-litre Quattro Ultra TDI diesel engine tuned to produce 190 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque. Audi could also introduce the same motor in a more efficient 163 bhp derivative for India. Audi is also likely to introduce the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol motor on the new Q5 with about 252 bhp of power. The company's famed Quattro all-wheel drive system will be offered too.

The new generation Audi Q5 has already been spotted testing in India, even before its global debut and is an extremely important product for the company. Since its last outing, this segment is flooded with options and the new Q5 will be locking horns with a host of offerings including the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Land Rover Discovery Sport, BMW X3 as well as the newly launched Volvo XC60. Expect prices to start around Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom) for the new Q5 and the model will be assembled at the VW plant in Aurangabad.
