New-Generation Kia Sportage Revealed Globally

- 2022 Kia Sportage SUV revealed; Gets a sharp, brand new design
- Will be launched globally later this year
- Complete list of features and specifications to be revealed later
Kia Corporation took the wraps off the all-new fifth generation Kia Sportage SUV. The Sportage gets significant updates to the design and interior and will be launched globally later this year. The new Sportage SUV is the result of a collaborative effort between Kia's main global design network in Korea, Germany, USA and China. The new Sportage shows off a completely new design, based on Kia's new 'Opposites United' philosophy. The rotund, portly frame of the old model has been replaced with a sharp, futuristic new look, which may divide opinion. The front end gets the company's signature tiger-nose grille with boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights and headlights which may remind you of the Hyundai Creta.

The SUV retains its crossover stance, but it becomes sportier now, leaning more towards a performance-oriented figure. There are lots of edges and creases on the profile while the rear sees a completely new look as well. The rear bumper is nicely done too, with a silver skid-plate.
"Reinventing the Sportage gave our talented design teams a tremendous opportunity to do something new; to take inspiration from the recent brand relaunch and introduction of EV6 to inspire customers through modern and innovative SUV design. With the all-new Sportage, we didn't simply want to take one step forward but instead move on to a different level in the SUV class," commented Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Design Centre.

(The dashboard on the new Sportage SUV is minimalist and the instrument console along with the touchscreen are merged together, something that you see on Mercedes-Benz cars)
The interior and the dashboard carry a nice, minimalist design. The instrument console and the touchscreen are mounted on the same panel, angled towards the driver, which give it a Mercedes-Benz-like feel. The 3D AC vents are nicely designed too, lending a slim, lean look to the cabin. Kia says that the touchscreen is easy to use and highly intuitive. The centre console gets a premium gloss finish along with cup holders, soft-touch switches and a shift-by-wire transmission dial.

(Along with the standard models, Kia will launch an X-line variant of the Sportage as well)
Along with the standard Sportage range, Kia will also launch a higher-spec X-line variant, which features different bumpers, side sill and a curved roof rack. For the interior, Kia will offer different trims options which include sage green or black seats along with quilting or black metal wood finishes.
Kia has not revealed complete specifications, engine options or a list of features as yet and while Kia India does have a strong focus on SUVs, we are unlikely to get the Sportage in India this year.
