Next Generation Audi A1 Teased Ahead Of Debut In Barcelona Soon

Having just unveiled its new flagship Q8 SUV, Audi has now diverted all attention towards its entry-level premium hatchback and has dropped the first official teaser of the next generation A1 supermini. The Audi A1 is the most affordable offering from the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer and with the next generation, it will be offered in only the Sportback style globally with the three-door version likely to be pulled off the market. The first teaser posted on Audi's social media handles gives a glimpse at what the car has to offer, most noticeably the new MMI Touch infotainment system that has been integrated in the centre console. A similar unit already makes it to the new generation Audi A8 and A6 models, and is being replicated on the company's smallest offering as well.

That said, the 2019 Audi A1 does not get the secondary screen for the climate control systems that are now available on the bigger models. Instead, the new model comes with an array of knobs and buttons that are familiar to what's currently on offer. The latter though is something that we like and is easier to use as well, without having to get your eyes off the road to adjust controls. In addition, the new A1 will also come with the Virtual Cockpit display, which is likely to be standard only on the top-trims, while the price conscious base variants could continue using an analog instrument console.
Audi has kept the r of the car under wraps for now. The car though is expected to build on the automaker's new design language sporting a massive single-frame grille up front with LED headlights, while the overall styling is expected to be curvy and more angular. Engine options for the new A1 haven't been revealed yet.
The next generation Audi A1 is scheduled for a global reveal at an event in Barcelona, Spain later this year. The car will also be manufactured in Spain with the production of the supermini moving to SEAT's Martorell plant with the all-new version, from the current facility in Brussels. Audi India has no plans to bring the A1 in India. That said, the Audi Q2 compact SUV is being considered for the Indian market and could make it here possibly next year.
