Next Generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Spotted Testing

- The new generation Maruti Suzuki is expected to offer better cabin space
- The next generation Ertiga shares its underpinnings with the new Swift
- Engines options could include the 1.4 petrol and an all-new 1.5 diesel
The next generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is currently in the works and the company is testing the model extensively, going by the slew of spy shots. More recently, a new spy shot of the 2018 Ertiga test mule has made its way online, giving a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming MPV. A highly successful model from the automaker, the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is expected to grow larger in dimensions, while packing a host of new features, better safety and new engine options as well. The fully camouflaged model was spotted testing recently while wearing alloy wheels, while the rear looks larger too.

The spy shots reveal a larger rear overhang on the new generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The model will be based on the lighter and more rigid Heartect platform, which underpins the new generation Swift hatchback as well as the Dzire subcompact sedan. As a result, expect the cabin to be a lot more liberal in space. A common complaint on the current generation Ertiga was the lack of leg space in the third row and Maruti seems to have worked on the same. Also expect to see improved boot space over the current model.

Other upgrades on the next generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga will include an all-new cabin with a touchscreen infotainment system, likely to be the same unit as the Dzire. The system, as we know, supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Bluetooth connectivity. The MPV will also get automatic climate control on the top spec trims while all variants will get dual airbags as standard. Other feature upgrades expected include headlamps with projector lens and LED daytime running lights, LED taillights and more. On the design front, the new next generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is expected to carry more upmarket styling. The camouflaged test mule though reveals little about the same.

(A new 1.5-litre diesel could replace the 1.3-litre diesel on the new Ertiga)
Under the hood, Maruti could continue using the 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine while reports suggest that the company's newly developed 1.5-litre diesel engine is likely to replace the ageing 1.3-litre four-cylinder oil burner, sourced from Fiat. Transmission options will include the 5-speed manual on both engine options, while Maruti will also offer an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) as well.
The all-new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is expected to go on sale in India sometime next year, and the automaker could give a glimpse of the new model at the 2018 Auto Expo. The new generation Swift is also slated for its India debut at the biennial auto show.
