Highlights

  • The first-generation Ford Figo is a driver-friendly offering
  • The 1.4-litre diesel version offered ample torque for city & highway use
  • Prices start from as low as Rs. 70,000 in the used car market for the 2010 Figo

The first generation Ford Figo arrived in India in 2010 and turned out to be a gamechanger for the automaker. The massive success set the ball rolling for Ford's aggressive expansion plans in India and the Figo received much love upon its arrival. The first generation Figo is still regarded as an excellent driver's car in the segment and the diesel version was known to be frugal and fun, making it easy to live with. You can find quite a few examples of the older Figo in the used car space with either engine options, making for a likeable first car or second car in the family. If you are planning to bring home a used Ford Figo, here are five things you need to know.

1. The first generation Ford Figo offers excellent and sturdy build quality. The plastics age well and there are barely any rattles after years of usage. The strong thud from the doors further provides a solid feel to the model.

2. The Figo arrived with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and later received the much likeable 1.4-litre diesel engine. Both units arrived with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Both engines though felt underpowered but the diesel is the torquey unit and offers good low-end power.

3. The older examples of the Figo was decently equipped with Bluetooth and AUX connectivity. The hatchback also has a sizeable boot and legroom in the second row. However, the pre-facelift version sold between 2010-2012 missed out on alloy wheels even on the top variants. Do be mindful of the same when looking for models.

4. The early examples of the first generation Ford Figo are prone to rusting, around the doors, left A-pillar among other places. Models with over 70,000 km on the odometer may need to change the steering assembly, while the clutch may also need a replacement. Do check for faulty air conditioning assembly or components that may need to be replaced as well.

5. The first generation Ford Figo is available in the market for some really low prices. Examples from 2010 can be available for as low as Rs. 70,000 for the petrol version while the diesel version is available for about Rs. 1.10 lakh. However, we'd recommend you avoid these versions for several smaller niggles that the car needs to work. Instead, look for more recent examples especially after 2012 that will offer a peaceful ownership experience.
