Skoda Kodiaq GT Coupe In The Works

- The Kodiaq GT might be launched sometime in 2019
- It will be launched in China first and then in other global markets
- Skoda says it sees a decent demand for sporty SUVs
The Skoda Kodiaq made its global debut late in 2016 and was recently launched in India too. In accordance with Skoda's new SUV plan, the Kodiaq was the first model to be launched and now will be followed by the Skoda Karoq. But, Skoda says that it is seeing a good demand for sporty, coupe-style SUVs. And therefore, in all likelihood, Skoda might bring out a coupe style variant of the Kodiaq in some markets. We believe that the Kodiaq Coupe will be named the Skoda Kodiaq GT. Initially, the Kodiaq GT will be launched only in China, but other global markets could see the SUV launched as well.

A marketing presentation held at a Skoda event in China has unofficially confirmed the plans for the Kodiaq GT. We do believe that something like the Kodiaq GT will find interested customers in India as well, considering India currently is perhaps in the middle of an SUV boom of sorts. The concept of an SUV is extremely popular and Skoda might as well try and cash on the same in India as well. The Kodiaq GT will be one of the first coupe SUV models outside of the more premium offerings such as the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and the GLE Coupe and so on.

Skoda had announced the idea of the Kodiaq GT earlier in March 2017. The basic change will be the shape of the roofline, with it sloping towards the rear. This of course will affect the headroom and the boot space as well and there could be a possibility that Skoda offers the Kodiaq GT in only a 5-seater variant instead of the regular 7-seater variant.
From what we hear, the Kodiaq GT will make its debut sometime in 2019 but the timeline of course, is not confirmed. We do hope that Skoda brings the Kodiaq GT to India as well.
