Suzuki GSX-R1000 Set To Be Updated

- Updated Suzuki GSX-R1000 may be unveiled later in 2021
- Suzuki's litre-class superbike yet to be updated for Euro5/BS6
- Updated GSX-R1000 may be introduced with Suzuki's return to WSBK
The Suzuki GSX-R1000, Suzuki's litre-class superbike, has not yet been updated to meet the latest Euro 5 emission regulations. And now, latest reports indicate that the GSX-R1000 is all set to get a makeover, and the updated model could be unveiled and announced as early as November 2021, at the EICMA show in Milan. This isn't exactly unexpected news; while Suzuki has updated the Hayabusa, as well as the naked GSX-S1000 to meet latest emission norms, the full-faired, litre-class superbike is yet to be updated to meet the Euro5/BS6 norms.

With the litre-class segment boasting of back-slapping performance, as well as the latest hi-tech electronics, the GSX-R1000 has got a little left behind, with the likes of the Ducati Panigale V4, BMW S 1000 RR and new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R boasting of the latest tech and performance, which are far ahead than the Gixxer's (The Gixxer name was originally given by fans to the GSX-R1000, but in India, it's used as a model name in 150 cc and 250 cc motorcycles).

The updated Suzuki GSX-R1000 could meet more than just a cosmetic and electronics update
According to a report in the Asphalt and Rubber, the next-generation Suzuki GSX-R1000 is being developed with the firm's eyes on returning to production racing, like World Superbike. Suzuki hasn't had a presence in WSBK since 2015, and a return to production racing in the international stage certainly promises on exposure and brand building.

Suzuki's flagship superbike falls short on both tech and performance in front of rivals like the Ducati Panigale V4 and BMW S 1000 RR
What is not clear is how far Suzuki would go to, to justify the GSX-R1000's 'updated' model. The new generation Hayabusa hasn't been given a comprehensive update, although it's said to make riding it easier, with more practical performance and torque. So, the next generation Gixxer could well be just that, an update, or a complete makeover, which will bring the GSX-R1000 in-line to compete with the very best litre-class machines, off and on the track.
