Tata Altroz EV India Launch Delayed Due To Changing Customer Expectations: Shailesh Chandra, Tata Mo

- The Tata Altroz EV was fist showcased at 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
- Pandemic among other reasons have delayed its launch in India.
- Expect the Tata Altroz EV to arrive later this year.
It was back in January 2020, when Tata Motors confirmed to carandbike.com, that the tata Altroz EV will most definitely be launched by mid-2021. However, the pandemic and numerous other reasons factored in since then, till today, resulting in a prolonged wait for the electric Altroz's arrival. On the sidelines of the launch of iCNG products from Tata Motors, we spoke with the top boss at Tata Motors to shed some light on the reasons for the delay of the Tata Altroz EV, and by when can we expect it to finally arrive in India.

Speaking to carandbike, Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd said, “Ever since we showcased the Tata Altroz EV at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, there was a certain concept that we wanted to drive. But over a period, we realized that that contingent needs to be slightly different and that's the reason for delay.”

He added, “Otherwise we had set within two years, we are going to bring that up, but a lot of things have changed. The expectation of customers also changed, so after a commitment to the market and we'll bring it at the right time.”

At present, Tata Motors' electric vehicle line-up includes the Tata Nexon EV and the Tata Tigor EV. The upcoming Tata Altroz EV is built on the all-new Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) platform and will employ the company's Ziptron powertrain technology. While the technical specifications are yet to be revealed, Tata Motors confirmed that all its future EVs with Ziptron technology will come with a minimum range of 250km on a single charge and will be equipped with a lithium-Ion battery with IP-67 certification along with an 8-years warranty.
