Tesla To Build World's Largest Lithium-Ion Electricity Storage Facility

- The facility is part of a project to shore up Southern California's grid
- It will be located at Southern California Edison's Mira Loma substation
- Tesla claims the Powerpack will be able to provide power to 2500 homes
Now, this is going to be a massive facility which will basically be a Tesla Powerpack and will be a series of batteries Tesla uses in its cars linked together and all of this will help produce electricity. The facility will be located at Southern California Edison's Mira Loma substation and will 20 megawatts/80 megawatt-hours of electricity.
The deadline for this facility is three months by which time it will have been commissioned, manufactured, and installed. So, the deadline is December 31, 2016. We've already told you about the Gigafactory in Nevada and the battery cells that will be used in this facility will be produced there. Considering that it was specifically set up to undertake such projects.
According to Tesla, this Powerpack will be able to provide power to 2500 homes, or fully charge 1000 Tesla cars. The company further stated that it will recharge during off-peak hours, ready to feed electricity to the grid when demand increases.
Tesla said in a statement, "In order to achieve a sustainable energy future, the world needs a two-way, flexible electric grid. The electric power industry is the last great industry which has not seen the revolutionary effects of storage. Working in close collaboration with Southern California Edison, the Tesla Powerpack system will be a landmark project that truly heralds the new age of storage on the electric grid."
