Top 10 Selling Cars in India - October 2014

Despite the festive season, car sales in October, 2014 were below expectations. Major players, including Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, registered a marginal growth in sales during the month. The only carmaker that recorded an impressive growth was Honda Cars India, whereas Mahindra, Toyota, Ford and other carmakers' sales declined as compared to the same month last year.
Here's the list of top 10 selling cars of the October, 2014
1. Maruti Suzuki Alto - 21443 units
2. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire - 17950 units
3. Maruti Suzuki WagonR - 14310 units
4. Maruti Suzuki Swift - 11965 units
5. Mahindra Bolero - 9090 units
6. Hyundai Elite i20 - 8896 units
7. Hyundai Grand i10 - 8400 units
8. Hyundai Eon - 6986 units
9. Maruti Ciaz - 6345 units
10. Maruti Omni - 6144 units
Key findings:
a. Among the top 10 selling cars for the month, 6 are from Maruti Suzuki India.
b. In its first full month of sales, Maruti Ciaz managed to enter the top-selling cars list by outselling Honda City.
c. Maruti Swift, however, managed a spot among the top-5 selling cars; its sales dropped by a huge 37.2 per cent. This is also because of lesser number of Swift units dispatched to dealers due to the launch of the updated model.
d. For the third consecutive month, the new-gen Honda City failed to enter the top-10 selling cars list.
e. Mahindra Bolero continues to outsell all of its rivals, primarily because of its huge popularity in rural and semi-urban markets.
f. Hyundai Grand i10, sitting on number 7, too recorded an year-on-year drop of 13.4 percent in October, 2014.
g. Hyundai Elite i20 continued to be the top choice among premium hatchback buyers. Hyundai sold a total of 8896 units.
h. Hyundai Eon is another product from the stables of the Korean automaker that managed to record an year-on-year growth. Hyundai sold 6986 units of the Eon, recording a marginal rise of 1.7 percent as compared to the same month last year.
i. Maruti's all-new small hatchback, the Celerio, which was at no. 10 last month, has now been replaced by its sibling Omni.
