Highlights

  • The 2021 Triumph Speed Twin is likely to be launched in the coming weeks
  • It gets significant updates over the outgoing model
  • We expect it to be priced at just below Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom)

Triumph Motorcycles unveiled the updated, 2021 Triumph Speed Twin earlier this month. It now gets more performance, different suspension and tyres, as well as other minor cosmetic updates. The good news is that the modern classic motorcycle has already been listed on Triumph Motorcycles India's website and we expect the bike to be launched in the coming weeks. The Speed Twin is a high-performance roadster in the Triumph Bonneville family, and uses the 1,200 cc 'high power' engine that is shared with the Triumph Thruxton. Here are top 5 highlights of the 2021 Triumph Speed Twin.

( The overall silhouette of the 2021 Triumph Speed Twin remains the same, but there are distinctive changes, incorporating more premium style and detailing. The 14.5 litre fuel tank gets new graphics, while the anodized headlamp mounts are new, and the upswept silencers now get the brushed Aluminium finish, and other premium bits include the classic Monza fuel cap, and clear anodised Aluminium swingarm. The front and rear mudguards get new mounts, and the side panels get brushed Aluminium finish, along with the heel guards)

(To complement the added performance, the suspension has now been changed, and comes with 43 mm Marzocchi forks with cartridge damping, and 120 mm travel. At the rear are twin shocks with adjustable preload, and also with 120 mm travel. Braking performance is also improved with new higher specification Brembo four-piston M50 radial monobloc calipers gripping twin 320 mm discs. At the rear wheel is a Nissin two-piston caliper with 220 mm disc. The steering geometry has been changed as well, with a half-degree sharper rake and 2 mm shorter trail. The 17-inch lightweight cast aluminium wheels feature a new 12-spoke design, and are shod with new Metzeler Racetec RR tyres, which offer better grip, precision and high-speed stability)

( The 2021 Speed Twin has the same Bonneville 1,200 cc 'high power' engine, but it's been updated to add 3 bhp more peak power, as well as reduce inertia by 17 per cent. New crankshaft and alternator, new balancer shaft, new cam profile, revised ports, and high compression pistons have brought these updates on. The result, Triumph says, is a more responsive engine, with more mid-range power and torque. In fact, the redline has added 500 rpm more, and peak torque is now achieved 500 rpm lower. The 1,200 cc parallel-twin engine now makes 99 bhp at 7,250 rpm and 112 Nm of peak torque at 4,250 rpm.)

( The Speed Twin gets three riding modes, Rain, Road and Sport, which have also been enhanced for 2021, adjusting both the throttle response and traction control settings to suit the rider's preference. The riding modes can be changed on the move, and the traction control can be switched off completely through the instrument menu)
