Toyota Temporarily Halts Bookings Of The Hilux In India

Toyota Kirloskar Motors unveiled the Hilux pick-up in India in January this year and while we were quite looking forward to knowing the price of the car, Toyota kept that information under wraps. However, it did announce that bookings for the utility vehicle were open and that attracted a lot of attention. Toyota today announced that because of the overwhelming response received by the Hilux in India, the company has had to temporarily halt bookings of the pick-up truck in the country.

The company said in a statement, "We are delighted with the overwhelming response that the Hilux has received from our customers within a fortnight of its launch. However, in light of various factors impacting our supply, we are unable to meet the heightened demand. Thus, we deeply regret our temporary halt of bookings for the Hilux with a view to avoid any further inconvenience to our customers."

Toyota, however, gave no indication on the number of bookings received for the Hilux in the country and we unable to provide you with a number either. The Toyota Hilux will be offered only in the double-cab variant and it shares its underpinnings with the current Toyota Innova Crysta and Fortuner. It is spawned by the IMV-2 platform and in fact there are quite a few identifiable bits that have been borrowed from the Fortuner.
Under the hood, the Toyota Hilux will source the same 2.8-litre, four-cylinder, diesel engine from the Fortuner that develops 201 bhp and 420 Nm of peak torque in the manual variant, while the automatic variant makes 500 Nm of peak torque. The carmaker will be offering the Hilux only in the 4x4 versions and the SUV comes equipped with all drive-assist features that we expect in an off-roader including hill-assist, brake assist, hill descent control and electronic stability program (ESP), limited-slip differential, differential lock and has water wading capacity of 700 mm.
