Volvo S90, the newest offering from the Swedish carmaker went on sale in India recently priced at Rs. 53.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new S90 sedan comes with a bold and stylish body and packs in a host on technology and luxury features. In fact, we have driven both the global model as well the India-spec version and we have to say it is quite an impressive car. With the deliveries set begin this December, here are 10 things that you show know about the all-new Volvo S90.
- The new Volvo S90 sedan is designed on the company's latest Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform that uses transverse front-drive design architecture and a Multilink rear suspension layout. It is the same platform that underpins the company's updated flagship SUV - the Volvo XC90 that was launched last year.
- The all-new Volvo S90 replaces the carmaker's older flagship sedan in India - S80. Compared to the previous model, the S90 comes with a more imposing design with stylish character lines and a host of safety and comfort features. It is longer, gets better proportions and packs a new engine.
2016 Volvo S90 Front
- Volvo has only launched one variant of the new S90 - that packs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel mill in the single D4 trim and churns out 190bhp and 400Nm of torque. The motor is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
- Globally, the new Volvo S90 sedan comes with an array of four cylinder petrol and diesel engine engines options - 3 petrol motors and 2 diesel engines. Interestingly, all these engines, including the more powerful diesel motor, are sub-2000 cc motors. This means even if the ban on 2000cc and above diesel engines returns in India, the S90 will see no problem.
2016 Volvo S90 Dashboard
- The new Volvo S90 comes with the distinctive Scandinavian design language used by the carmaker. Volvo says that with the smooth design flow and the signature shoulder-line treatment gives a visual feel of a luxury yacht to the side profile of the car.
- The new S90's exterior profile gets some of the best design elements offered by the company. Up front, the new chrome finished inscription grille comes with a distinctive concave design with the Volvo Ironmark logo at the centre. The grille is flanked by the carmaker's signature full-LED Thor's Hammer headlights. On the other hand, the rear profile comes with nice C-Shaped wraparound LED tail lamps and a well-sculpted boot lid.
- The inside of the new Volvo S90 is indeed a very nice place to be. The cabin has been designed with premium quality materials with attention to every detail. From leather infused dashboard with natural-finish walnut wood panels to soft perforated Nappa leather upholstered seats that come with both heating and cooling option, the cabin does make you feel special.
2016 Volvo S90 Rear Profile
- The car also offers a host of features like - Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system with 19 speakers, sunroof, a 12.3 inches digital instrument cluster with a 9 inch touch screen, heads-up display with navigation and Apple CarPlay, 3 driving modes - Eco, Comfort & Dynamic with independent air suspension for the rear wheels, and power operated tailgate with foot scanner.
- Coming to safety, the Volvo S90 offers several high-end features like automatic Lane Keeping Aid, run off-road protection, emergency brake assist, use of high strength Boron steel, whiplash protection, side impact protection, rear parking camera, park piolet assist for park-in/park-out/parallel/perpendicular, and much more.
- Despite offering only one diesel variant, at Rs. 53.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) the new Volvo S90 makes for a very compelling choice. In fact even with all these features, the price of the S90 is at par with the base price of most of its competitors. Here's a detailed price comparison with its top rivals.
