The updated model, which includes visual and mechanical changes, was spotted recently at the Oschersleben track in Germany and points out some striking differences compared to the outgoing version.

The BMW S1000R was introduced globally in 2014, while the S1000RR was updated in 2015 with a newer chassis. Compared to the 2015 S1000RR, the 2017 S1000R gets a revised chassis that is visibly different that the outgoing one. The changes are evident to the frame with the new cutout around the rearset mounts, which is missing on the outgoing S1000R.

The 2017 BMW S1000R will get a slight power upgrade as well

In terms of powertrain, the litre-class motorcycle from BMW Motorrad could see a slight bump in power output that could come courtesy of a revised cylinder head with changes to the duct geometry, intake camshaft and intake valves. All of these updates were first seen on the 2015 S1000RR. In addition, the street-fighter will also get other tech updates from the S1000RR like the auto-blipping quickshifter or Shift Assistant Pro, that allows clutchless upshifts and downshifts. The test mule also shows rubber pads added to the handlebar mounts to absorb vibrations.

The 2017 BMW S1000R will come to India as well as a CBU

With the plethora of changes, the 2017 BMW S1000R is expected to grab some major attention as the model could be one of the showstoppers at either Intermot or EICMA motorcycle shows later this year. The upgrades nevertheless, will help the street-fighter to keep up with offerings like the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 and KTM 1290 Super Duke R in the segment.
