3 Correct Ways of Holding the Steering Wheel

Everyone likes to drive freely and comfortably, be it a new driver or a seasoned one. However, the most important thing is to drive "SAFELY". Yes! It may sound cliche, but it is the most crucial aspect that one should keep in mind while driving. Several processes affect our overall driving efficiency. One such process that heavily influences our driving skills is our knowledge of holding the steering wheel. There are several ways to steer the wheel properly. This article will discuss three important ways that improve our ability to steer the wheel.
3 correct ways of holding the steering wheel
1. Adjust the steering wheel position
After getting into their cars, drivers have to adjust their seats along with the side-view and rear-view mirrors. Once you are seated comfortably, you should adjust the steering wheel to hold it comfortably. Modern cars have height-adjustable steering wheels to make driving more comfortable and fit the driver's height. Using the lever, the driver can pull or push the steering wheel toward or away from the dashboard.
Both the side-view and the rear-view mirrors should be double-checked by turning them from side to side to ensure that there are no blind spots and the driver can see through the windshield without any obstructions.

2. Instead of "10 and 2," use the rule of "9 and 3"
Many people find the "9 and 3" position better and more comfortable than the "10 and 2" position. In the "9 and 3" position, you put your left hand at 9 o'clock on the left side of the steering wheel and your right hand at 3 o'clock on the right side. It is better because it makes turning the steering wheel easier.

3. Steer with both hands
Most drivers don't realise how important it is to steer with both hands. They only use one hand, which is against the rules of the road. When turning the wheel, you need to use both your right and left hands. By using both hands, drivers can turn the steering wheel not only correctly but also smoothly at road intersections, roundabouts, and other similar places. Also, it helps to turn the wheel both in a clockwise and a counterclockwise direction. Besides, crossing your arms while steering is also not a good idea because it makes it harder to steer quickly in the opposite direction.
