BMW 8 Series To Get Digital Instrument Cluster

It seems the spy shots for the upcoming BMW 8 Series will not die down soon, as new images have surfaced over the internet showing the interior and the digital instrument cluster. Form these images it looks like the instrument cluster is sourced from the new generation BMW Z4, which will make its debut later this year. Sitting at the top of the product portfolio for BMW, the new 8 Series will be fully revealed on June 15 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 8 Series is the saloon version of the Gran Coupe that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

Now, talking about the new digital instrument cluster, the new 8 Series features the traditional physical buttons instead of touch-screen type. The infotainment system will most likely be a 10.2-inch screen from the new 7 Series, however, reports suggest that the one in the 8 Series could be a tad bit bigger by a few inches. Moreover, the company will install the latest version of the iDrive that will offer improved touch sensitivity and internal memory big enough to store 10 different configurations. The folks at BMW have tried to maintain a certain level of premiumness on the inside with red and black leather along with metallic accents and the M- steering wheel. The interiors do look special from the outside, but how the main question of how it actually feels is up for debate.

On the outside, the new BMW 8 Series is based on the new modular Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, same as the new 6 Series. In terms of design, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, Bentley Continental GT rival will have lots of common features with the Concept, showcased at the 2017 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. Up front, the new 8 Series will sport a large kidney grille along with the slimmer twin laser headlights and large air intakes. In profile, the surfaces, crisp lines and flowing roofline are in perfect proportions to get a clean arrangement. The 21-inch light-alloy wheels and the flared wheel arches adds to the commanding presence it hopes to instill. The rear is rounded off by the L-shaped lights, carbon-fibre diffuser and the trapezoidal exhaust pipes.
