Decoding the Irritating Noises Coming From Your Car

- Clunking noises can appear while applying brakes as well as bumps on road
- It is not safe to drive with clunking noises; the car must be repaired
- Engines can consist of rotating parts that could make clunking noises
A car can have problems when used for extended periods; it is a machine. Machines have a lot of parts working together to function. Often, these parts face some problems, resulting in irritating noises. Clunking noises are often heard when the parts don't work properly. There are various reasons as to why these clunking noises may appear.

What is clunking?
Clunking noises are usually created when heavy metal parts crash against something with hard force.

Causes for clunking noises to occur
- Worn tie rods: The tie rods connect the steering knuckle to the steering rack. These rods are responsible for turning the front wheels when the steering is turned. Worn tie rods make cranking noises when the steering is turned. The rods are durable but can wear out over time.
- Sway bar links damaged: The sway bar links are responsible for keeping the tires stuck to the ground when the wheels are turned. The damaged sway bar links can lead to cranking noises and a feeling of loose steering.
- Damaged suspension bushings: The bushings are materials present in the suspension system. Over time these bushings start wearing off. This might lead to metal-on-metal clanking creating clunking noises.
- Broken ball joints: The ball joints are an important system component. If the ball joints are broken, they need immediate attention. These damaged joints might collapse the front suspension. When they're broken, the person can hear weird noises coming from the cars.
- Damaged shock absorbers: It is easy to check for worn-out shock absorbers. Inspect the shock body for any fluid leaks. Without proper shock absorbers, the suspension system fails to function, causing clunking noises.
- Broken CV joints: The CV joints consist of protective boots. When these boots get damaged, the joints start malfunctioning. This might cause problems for the car and lead to weird clunking noises.
- Steering rack problems: Steering should be a smooth affair. The minute the driver feels that the steering seems to stick, that is when they should know there are some problems in the car.

Fixing these problems
Inspecting the car regularly makes it easy to identify problems and fix them if needed. Keep checking the moving parts regularly and look for signs of damage. If the customer sees any weird occurrences, they should take it to the mechanic. The mechanic will let them know whether the parts need repair or replacement.
There are universal joints present at either end of the shafts. Apply lubrication to these parts. Often, lubrication smooths out the point of contact between the rotating machines, making them easy to operate.
If the clunking noises persist, it is advisable to seek an expert's opinion immediately to prevent further damage.
