Delhi Government Plans To Roll-Out 1000 Electric Buses

- The 1000 electric buses are planned to be rolled-out in 2018-19 FY
- After China, Delhi will have the largest fleet of the electric buses
- Factory-fitted CNG cars to get 50 per cent off on the registration fee
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government announced its plan to roll-out 1000 fully-electric buses in Delhi during the 2018-19 fiscal year. The announcement came as a part of the new budget presented to the Delhi assembly today by the APP government, which also promised to create a comprehensive electric vehicle policy for the national capital. Details about how and in which manner will the electric buses that are to be rolled out haven't been revealed yet. However, with 1000 fully-electric buses, Delhi will now have the one of the largest electric bus fleets in the world.

The government also emphasised on the fact that this is the first ever green budget for Delhi and it's aimed to address the rising pollution in the city. In addition to introducing the 1000 electric buses in the city, the government has also announced the induction of 905 electric feeder vehicles to boost last mile connectivity and also the expansion of eligibility criteria for E-rickshaw subsidy.
Appreciating the move made by the AAP Government, Kailash Gahlot, Delhi Cabinet Minister for Transport Tweeted saying, "Historic move: Delhi Government lead by Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia announces its decision to procure 1000 Electric Buses. (This) will further strengthen Public Transport System without polluting Environment of Delhi."
Furthermore, the Delhi Government will now also offer 50 per cent concession on registration charges for private cars that come with factory-fitted CNG kits. But, this will happen only after the approval of Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. The government has also announced a multi-pronged initiative to strengthen the Pollution Under Control (PUC) programme.
