F1: "This Is Unacceptable," Tweets Hamilton's Future Teammate George Russell Over Abu Dhabi GP Resul

- George Russell called the FIA's final lap decision unacceptable
- Max Verstappen claimed his maiden F1 world title as a result
- Russell moves to Mercedes next season and will race alongside Hamilton
Williams F1 driver who makes the switch to Mercedes next season, George Russell took to social media to show his displeasure over the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix's end that denied Lewis Hamilton his record-breaking eighth F1 title. Russell called it "unacceptable," as the decisions taken by the FIA created the opportunity in the final lap for Max Verstappen to win the championship.

Soon after the race, Russell tweeted, "This is unacceptable! Max is an absolutely fantastic driver who has had an incredible season and I have nothing but huge respect for him, but what just happened is absolutely unacceptable. I cannot believe what we've just seen."

Hamilton led the majority of the Abu Dhabi GP having taken the lead from pole-sitter Verstappen right at the start of the race. With a few laps to go, Nicholas Latifi of Williams crashed deploying the Safety Car that allowed Verstappen to switch to soft tyres for the final laps while closing up on Hamilton. It seemed at one point that the race would end behind the safety car with Hamilton in the lead and the driver taking the world championship as a result.
However, the FIA decided in the final sector to let half of the field to unlap themselves despite saying the opposite earlier. This allowed Verstappen to eventually pass Hamilton on the final lap, benefitting from new tyres and claiming his maiden F1 title. Russell had retired from the race due to a technical snag a few laps ago.

The world championship went down to the final lap between Hamilton and Verstappen
Mercedes submitted two protests against the Abu Dhabi GP race results, both of which were dismissed by the stewards and the FIA. The team has now filed an intention to appeal the decision at a higher court.
