Jaguar to Launch Locally Assembled XJ Saloon Next Month in India

After offering locally assembled XF sedan in India, Jaguar is now thinking on the lines to commence local assembling of XJ sedan. Local assembling of XJ sedan will be done at Tata Motors manufacturing plant located in Pune. The 2014 version of XJ saloon is expected to be rolled out in domestic market by June, JLR plans on proffering the long wheelbase trim or the XJL trim only in India. An expected price ranging between Rs 90 lakh to Rs 95 lakh is being speculated for the premium sedan that will cross swords with other vehicles in its segment including Mercedes Benz S Class, BMW 7 Series and Audi A8.
Jaguar will offer upgraded XJ saloon in petrol and diesel engine options. The company will also offer XJ Supershots as a completely built unit. Petrol variants of the saloon will be powered by a 2.0 litre, four cylinder, turbocharged gasoline motor that generates a pinnacle power of 240 PS at 5,500 RPM along with a top torque of 340 Nm at 1,750 RPM. Diesel range of the saloon on the other hand will come equipped with a 3.0 litre, V6, turbocharged diesel powertrain engendering a peak power of 275 PS at 4,000 RPM and a top torque of 600 Nm at 2,000 RPM. The robust diesel motor enables the saloon to sprint from nil to 100 kmph in less than seven seconds. An eight speed ZF gearbox transmitting power to rear wheels will come paired with petrol and diesel variants.
Minor modifications will be made inside the cabin, customers will get options to choose between bench or individual seats, entertainment package that includes two independent screens compatible with a number of multi-media formats will be offered as standard. The large glass roof from the current version will be carried forward in the new version of XJ saloon. Except for a new wheel design no other addition will be seen on the exterior front.
