Maruti Suzuki Records Massive Jump In Production In May 2022

- Maruti Suzuki registered a huge growth in production across segments.
- The production growth is primarily attributed to a low base in May 2021.
- Production was dractically minimised during the second wave of COVID-19.
Maruti Suzuki has recorded over threefold increase in production numbers last month manufacturing 1,64,859 units in May 2022 as compared to 40,924 units sold in the same month a year ago, which is an uptick of 302.84 per cent. However, the humongous growth is primarily attributed to low base in May 2022 as production was drastically minimised when the nation was struggling the second wave of COVID-19. The company has also started recovering gradually from the semiconductor shortage that has disrupted the auto industry last year.

Maruti Suzuki manufactured 36,941 units of utility vehicles last month.
The company has recorded a growth of 269.70 per cent in the Mini and compact segment with cars like the Alto 800, WagonR, Swift, Baleno and Dzire, manufacturing 1,11,009 units last month as compared to 30,026 units produced a year ago. The Utility Vehicle (SUV + MPV) segment with models like the Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and XL6 witnessed an uptick of 305.67 per cent at 36,941 units as compared to 9,106 units manufactured in the same month a year ago. Production of the Eeco MPV too recorded a massive increase at 10,692 units as compared to 962 units manufactured a year ago. The Ciaz compact sedan too saw an uptick of 240.26 per cent at 1817 units as against 534 units. Even the Super Carry Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) saw production going up quite significantly at 4,400 units as compared to 296 units in May 2021.

The Ciaz compact sedan too saw an uptick of 240.26 per cent at 1817 units as against 534 units.
In terms of sales, Maruti Suzuki registered a healthy Year-on-Year (YoY) growth of nearly 247 per cent selling 1,61,413 units when compared to 46,555 units sold in May 2021. With respect to month-on-month sales, the company registered a decline of five per cent with 170,395 units sold in April 2022. Maruti Suzuki's domestic sales stood at 128,000 units in May 2022, while exports stood at 27,191 units.
