Highlights

  • The new B-Class based GLB will be slotted between the GLA and the GLC
  • The Mercedes-Benz GLB is built on the MFA2 platform
  • Mercedes-Benz GLB might get the same interior as the new A-Class

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class SUV was yet again spotted testing in snowy terrains and this time the prototype was seen wearing production-ready headlamps. While the B-Class based compact SUV is still heavily covered in camouflage, the new LED projector headlamps and the underlining LED daytime running lights are clearly visible in the latest spy images. The taillamps are also production units and the new LED units appear to be quite different from what we usually get to see in Mercedes' SUVs.

As mentioned before the SUV is still draped in heavy camouflage and pseudo body cladding to hide the design and styling of the new Mercedes-Benz GLB. However, the real silhouette of the SUV is slightly starting to show its presence, and it's clear that Mercedes is going for a nice boxy design. The alloy wheels are not the same ones from what we saw in the previous test mule but we still think the production version will be different. The SUV appears to be only slightly smaller than the GLC and there is a possibility that Mercedes might offer a seven-seater option to make things interesting.

We still do not have a view of the cabin so it's hard to tell what the interior will look like. But, considering the fact that the SUV is based on the same MFA2 platform with the A-Class and B-Class, the GLB might come with a cabin similar to the new-gen A-Class.

Engine options are still not confirmed but, we expect the Mercedes-Benz GLB to get the same engine options as the new A-Class. It could also get the new engines that have been developed in partnership with the Renault-Nissan alliance. The GLB is also expected to get a new electronically controlled four-wheel drive system, but can only confirm that when the SUV make its official debut. For now, we expect Mercedes-Benz to pull the wraps off the production model of the GLB sometime in early 2019.
