Popular Indian Cars That Were Discontinued

Cars are one of the most used commodities in the entire world. Car manufacturers spend a lot of time designing and building cars that do well in the market and are remembered for their legacy. But sometimes, the cars they dish out do not make the impact they hope the cars would. Due to several unavoidable factors, the cars have to be taken off the market, and the production has to be halted. We shall look at some of these cars that got taken off the market within 5 years of their release!

Tata Tiago JTP
Tata Tiago was an ambitious project from TATA Motors. The car was billed as being a game-changer in the hatchback market. The 5-seater car was presented as such. But it failed to attract many buyers. The high maintenance cost and noisy engines made the journey for Tigor JTP difficult. In addition, the car had major mileage issues, and people simply chose other alternatives that gave much better features for comparable prices.
The starting of the pandemic and government regulations saw Tigor being taken off the market. The compact sedan was not seen as being worth the price. People preferred alternatives like Baleno as opposed to this.
Renault Captur
From the get-go, things looked bleak for Capture. Firstly, the car's advertising received major backlash from all forums due to the ad allegedly "misinforming" customers. Even though the automatic mode and spacious nature should've led to high sales, the car had a lackluster performance and was taken off the market in just two years. It was also considered to be not worth the money.

Ford Aspire
Ford Aspire was launched amidst much fanfare but the base model of the car was discontinued by the company owing to unimpressive sales. As the production of the entry-level variant has been completely halted, only the inventory left with the dealerships is available for the customers.
Volkswagen Ameo
This must've been a big blow for Volkswagen. This was the company's first and only attempt so far at making a car for the Indian market only. Safe to say, things didn't exactly work out. The car failed to meet the set BS6 emission norms. The car also had a lackluster run in the Indian market and suffered the consequences.
MS Baleno RS
Another car that suffered from the BS6 emission rules that the government set. The car didn't get the deserved chance to try out in the Indian market. However, the company was quick to take action. The company announced an up-gradation of the turbocharged petrol engine to meet the norms. After that, it would be interesting to see how Baleno performs in the market.

Honda BR-V
The car not only suffered from the updated BS6 norms but also problems that plagued the car itself. For the price offered, the features were considered not up to the mark. The seat height was also a major issue. All these factors led to the car being taken off the market.
It is certainly a challenge for the companies to cope with the losses faced due to the discontinuation of certain models but sadly, such is the nature of the automobile industry in India.
Ford Figo
Even before the company's sudden exit from the country, low demand for the Ford Figo cars lead to the discontinuation of the base versions of the hatchback. The decision was taken to dedicate resources elsewhere as there were plans to launch several new cars.
