Report: Maruti Suzuki Baleno Bookings Cross 40,000

As the demand for Maruti Suzuki Baleno persists, the carmaker may already be looking at plans to expand the hatchback's line-up. According to a report in Autocar India, Maruti Suzuki is contemplating the introduction of a more powerful iteration of the 1.3-litre Multijet 200 DDiS diesel engine on the Baleno; the aforementioned unit puts out 89bhp. For now, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno's list of engine options comprise a 1.2-litre VVT petrol and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel. While the petrol unit develops 83bhp, the diesel motor offers 74bhp. Transmission options on the hatchback include a 5-speed manual (petrol and diesel) and a CVT (only petrol).
Maruti Suzuki Baleno's mileage is rated at 21.4Km/l (1.2-litre VVT petrol) and 27.39Km/l (1.3-litre DDiS diesel).

Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes packed to the gills as far as safety features are concerned; an anti-theft security system, ABS with EBD, dual airbags, and front seat belt pre-tensioners and force limiters are standard provisions across all trim levels. It also gets features like rear combination lamps with LED, body-coloured door handles, ORVMs, and bumpers, albeit depending on the selected trim.
The second car to be sold via Maruti Suzuki's premium Nexa dealership range, after S-Cross, the Baleno goes up against Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, and Volkswagen Polo in the premium hatchback segment. One must note, the car will also venture into markets across the globe with exports to 100 overseas locations including Europe, Japan, South America set to begin in 2016.
