Royal Enfield Initiates 'Service Update' for Himalayan

Royal Enfield has issued a service update for its all-new Himalayan adventure tourer. The company is calling it a 'proactive service update', as it's received complaints on a number of issues including engine noise, hard gear shift; the stand touching the body of the bike and change of sari guard. The issue was brought to light after customers complained of the engine loud over the regular tone. The bike maker is contacting customers, asking them to bring in their bikes even before the first service.

Speaking on the matter, Eicher Motors Ltd Managing Director and CEO, Siddhartha Lal said, "We have received feedback from some customers about high engine noise. Although it doesn't affect performance we have found a solution to it. Usually we rectify such issue in first servicing but we are asking customers to bring their bikes earlier to get it resolved." The company has refrained from calling this a recall. Instead, Lal said, "I want to clarify this is not a recall. Recalls are actually meant for safety related and other large issues. In fact this (exercise by Royal Enfield) is commonly referred to as proactive service update."

RE Himalayan - versatile adventure tourer

While there is no confirmation, it is believed that all units of the Himalayan fall under the proactive service update, but the company will be replacing the rocker unit of the engine for only those customers experiencing the issue. Furthermore, the company has rectified the hard gear shifting issue, while the design of the sari guard has been changed. Lastly, Royal Enfield has also addressed the issue of the stand touching the body of the bike, as part of the recall.

Nevertheless, the "proactive" move by the company is appreciated with all replacements to be made free of cost. Himalayan owners can take the motorcycle to their dealership to address any issues. The Himalayan is powered by the company's all-new 411cc long-stroke (LS) single-cylinder engine that has been built to trail the toughest of terrains, and can go without an oil change for 10,000 km. The motor is tuned to produce 24.5bhp of power and 32Nm of torque, whilst paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
