Skoda Gives Major Updates to the 2017 Octavia Internationally

- Skoda has listed out the updates for the 2017 model of the Octavia
- For the first time, Skoda will offer a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine option
- Skoda will also give an optional Dynamic Chassis Control system
The Czech manufacturer has said that it will update the Octavia range with a dynamic chassis control (DCC) along with a new engine variant, which will be the 1.0-litre TSI that produces 114bhp and 200Nm and a new infotainment system as well.
(2017 Skoda Octavia engine)The turbo-charged, 999cc 3-cylinder engine replaces the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder that was on offer earlier. This the first time ever that a 3-cylinder engine has been fitted into a Skoda. The manufacturer also says that the engine sounds better and delivers better driving characteristics than the engine it replaces. The 1.0-litre TSI engine is linked to a 7-speed DSG transmission. The claimed 0-100kmph time is 9.9 seconds while the top speed is 202kmph. There is also a 6-speed manual gearbox on offer as well. Skoda also says that the new engine is 8 per cent more efficient than the earlier engine. The new engine makes use of aluminium crankcase, aluminium pistons and weighs in at just 78 kgs. The crank case and the cylinder head have their own cooling circuits as well which means that the engine manages heat better.
(2017 Skoda Octavia Dynamic Chassis Control)The Dynamic Chassis Control will be an optional extra that will be available on models with an engine output of 150bhp and more. The DCC basically makes changes to the steering and suspension settings as per the driving mode that is selected. There are 5 driving modes to choose from i.e. Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport and Individual. There is an electronic valve which controls the flow of oil to the shock absorbers in accordance to the driving mode selected. The steering and suspension becomes tauter when in Sport mode, providing better stability and tyre grip.
The 2017 range of Octavia also gets Skoda's second generations Modular Infotainment Matrix (MIB-II). It now features Wi-Fi along with a host of other optional extras such as the Skoda Phonebox, which offers wireless charging as well.
We hope that some of these features do come to the Indian range of Skoda Octavia as well.
