- The new Skoda Slavia will debut globally on November 18, 2021
- Sketches reveals attractive design language and coupe-style silhouette
- The compact sedan is built on the same MQB A0-IN platform as the Kushaq
Skoda Auto India has released the first official design sketches of the Slavia compact sedan, which is set to debut on November 18, 2021. The newest offering from the Czech carmaker is based on the localised MQB A0-IN platform that also underpins the Kushaq and Volkswagen's Taigun. The sedan will be locally produced at the company's Pune facility. Deliveries are expected to begin by early next year. The Slavia will be the first sedan to be based on the new platform. We have already driven the prototype version of the car, and you can read our review here.

The Skoda Slavia will be the second product from the Czech carmaker under the India 2.0 project.
The two design sketches released by the automaker gives us an understanding of what the car looks like. Upfront, the sedan gets the brand's signature hexagonal grille flanked by sharply designed LED headlights with L-shaped LED DRLs. The sketch also gives us a glimpse of the car's coupe-style silhouette, long wheelbase, alloy wheels as well as company badging on the front wings. The second sketch also gives us an idea of the car's rear section. It gets signature C-shaped LED tail lamps which are divided into two parts, and further extend into the boot lid. The roofline slopes gently towards the rear that merges into the boot lid.
The upcoming Skoda Slavia will be introduced as a replacement for the Rapid. In fact, the brand has already ended the production of the Rapid compact sedan at its Pune facility. Dimensionally, the Slavia measures 4541 mm in length, 1752 mm in width and 1487 mm in height. The wheelbase of the sedan stands at 2651 mm.

Mechanically, the Slavia will share its powertrains with the Kushaq. It includes two turbocharged petrol engines - 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI. While the former makes 113 bhp and 175 Nm of peak torque, the latter is good for 148 bhp and 250 Nm of power figures. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, while a 6-speed automatic torque converter and a 7-speed DSG automatic will be available as an option. The bigger 1.5-litre motor will also get active cylinder technology (ACT) which automatically shuts down two cylinders when the engine is at cruising speeds, thus enhancing the fuel efficiency.
