Tata Tiago EV India Launch Confirmed For September 2022

- Tiago EV to become Tata Motor's most affordable EV in India
- Launch confirmed for later this month
- Expected to get similar equipment list to the standard Tiago
Tata Motors has confirmed that it will be adding a new EV to its passenger vehicle stable, the Tiago EV. The all-electric Tiago will be positioned under the current Tigor EV as the entry point to Tata’s range of EVs while also making purchasing a Tata EV more affordable. The new electric hatchback will join Tata's line-up this month.
“Earlier this year, we had unveiled our 3 phased approach towards building a comprehensive EV portfolio. As we accelerate our future journey, we are committed to launch 10 EVs in different product segments, body styles and affordability levels. Today, is a momentous occasion for us, as we announce the expansion of our EV portfolio further with a new mainstream intervention from the stable of Tata Motors, the Tiago EV. As a leader, we are now pioneering the next phase of the EV market expansion, which will bring all the EV benefits of an exciting yet easy drive, silent cabin, low cost of ownership to a more accessible level,” said Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd.
Tata had previously shown a Tiago EV concept back in 2017.
There is little information on the model though going by the company’s existing portfolio, expect it to also get the company’s Ziptron electric vehicle architecture with the electric motor likely being the same as offered on the larger Tigor.
Tata had previously revealed a Tigor EV concept back in 2017 on the pre-facelift hatchback. The concept featured a 85 kW electric motor which enabled it to hit 100 kph in about 11 seconds and reach a top speed of 135kmph. It had a range of about 100 km.
In terms of design we could expect the Tiago EV to borrow elements from the Tigor EV such as the blue trim elements and closed off grille. In terms of the features expect the EV to get a similar equipment list to the standard Tiago hatchback.
