Toyota RAV4 Spotted Testing In India

- The Toyota RAV4 is likely to go on sale in India by the end of this year.
- It is expected to be launched in India as a CBU.
- It is based on Toyota's new TNGA platform.
The Toyota RAV4 has been spotted testing in India completely undisguised and it's the latest-generation model that was unveiled at the New York Auto Show in 2018. The Japanese carmaker is expected to launch the RAV4 by the end of this year in India and it is expected to take the import route. We are expecting that the Toyota RAV4 will be initially launched in India as a completely built unit (CBU) and the company may consider local assembly after observing the market response.

New-Gen Toyota RAV4 is built on the company's Toyota New Global Architecture' (TNGA) platform
The Toyota RAV4 is underpinned by the company's 'Toyota New Global Architecture' (TNGA) platform which currently spawns the new Camry, Prius, C-HR, and the Corolla hatchback on sale in global markets. Thanks to the new platform, the RAV4 SUV now comes with a slightly longer wheelbase, while the overall length has seen a marginal reduction. It's also slightly wider and a tad shorter, which gives the new RAV4 a beefier look. The SUV comes with an aggressive face accentuated by some bold muscular lines, stylish 19-inch black alloy wheels, two-tone colour option and more. The RAV4 comes with LED headlights and taillights, a roof-mounted spoiler, front and rear skid plates, and a dual exhaust system.

Other features include USB ports, wireless phone charger and an optional 800-watt JBL sound system among others. The SUV also gets some optional features like a new high mounted rear camera and a new rear view mirror display for improved visibility. On the safety front, the US-spec Toyota RAV4 comes with Toyota's Safety Sense, which includes features like forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and emergency braking, dynamic cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist and auto high beams among others. The SUV also gets Lane Tracing Assist, but we are unlikely to get this feature in India.

Powering the Toyota RAV4 is a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder petrol motor which is offered with both the standard and hybrid version. The engine comes mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid models will get the CVT unit. The RAV4 also comes with the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system along with Toyota's AWD-i hybrid setup that now adds 30 percent more torque to the rear wheels. Once launched, the new Toyota RAV4 will rival the likes of the Volkswagen T-Roc and Skoda Karoq and is expected to be priced around 22 lakh in India.
