Toyota Registers Innova Hycross Trademark In India; Spotted Testing Globally

- The Toyota Innova Hycross is likely to be based on the TNGA platform.
- it could source the 2.5-litre hybrid powertrain from the Camry hybrid.
- The Toyota Innova Crysta Hycross is expected to go on sale next year.
Toyota is gearing up to introduce the next-gen Innova Crysta in India and spy pictures of the new MPV also surfaced online a while ago. A new spy image of the hybrid version of the Toyota Innova Crysta is also doing rounds on the internet and the model is expected to make its global debut this year itself. Codenamed B560, the new-gen MPV is expected to go on sale in India and other Asian markets next year and it has trademarked the 'Innova Hycross' name in India hinting that it could be used for the production model.

Toyota also showed the EV concept of the Innova Crysta recently at the Indonesia International Motor Show.
That said, the company might launch the Toyota Innova Crysta first with just the diesel engine and is likely to introduce the hybrid version at a later stage. The new Toyota Innova Hycross will likely be underpinned by the TNGA platform and will share underpinnings with the Avanza MPV sold internationally. This also means that the Innova Hycross could come with a front wheel drive (FWD) configuration. The Avanza shares wheelbase with the current Innova and offers almost identical cabin space. In the spy picture, the front doors, C-pillars and wing mirrors look similar to the Avanza but the D-pillar is more upright with longer rear doors. However, the front end and rear of the Toyota Innova Crysta Hycross are expected to be drastically different. In fact, Toyota also showed the EV concept of the Innova Crysta recently at the Indonesia International Motor Show, but it has been developed only for study.
