Toyota GR Supra Will Get A Manual Gearbox Soon

- Manual gearbox expected to only come with the 3.0-litre turbo-petrol
- Expected to go on sale in global markets by end-2022
- Reveal expected in the coming months
The Toyota GR Supra will get the long-awaited manual gearbox option soon. Toyota's iconic sportscar in its latest generation was only made available with automatic gearboxes for both the 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options. Now a little over 3 years after its debut, the carmaker has confirmed that there is a manual gearbox variant coming.
Previewed in a pair of teasers Toyota showcased the rear of the current-gen Supra with the vehicle name in red and the three-pedal layout for the new manual Supra. Toyota confirmed that the red Supra badge will denote the car being a manual. Toyota has said that the manual gearbox has been “designed to offer a unique dynamic experience while meeting the demand of driving purists” and has been developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing based on customer and fan feedback. This could mean that the manual gearbox will be a Supra exclusive with its sister car the BMW Z4 likely to remain as an automatic only.
The new gearbox option should further push the GR Supra's appeal amongst buyers wanting a more involving driving experience that comes with a manual gearbox.
