Upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT Plug-In Hybrid Teased Ahead Of Official Debut

Mercedes-Benz's performance arm, Mercedes-AMG will soon add a new member to its GT family, and the new model is expected to be a plug-in hybrid. Likely to be called the Mercedes-AMG GT 73e, the car will make its global debut later this week, on September 1, 2021, and ahead of the official unveiling, the carmaker has released a new teaser. The new AMG GT will be a plug-in-hybrid version of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, and the Stuttgart-based carmaker has revealed the pre-production concept at the time of unveiling the 4-Door Coupe. Having said that officially, not much has been revealed yet, in fact, some reports even suggest it might be called - Mercedes-AMG GT63 E-Performance.

What we do know, is the fact that the upcoming model will get a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 (M177) engine which will be paired with an electric motor to deliver a total output of about 805 bhp. As for the torque output, the new AMG GT 73e is expected to offer a combined output of close to 1,000 Nm. The electric drive unit will be mounted at the rear axle, and it will include an electric motor, a two-speed transmission, and a limited-slip differential.

The carmaker will be offering the car under its newly formed "E Performance" banner, which will see more high-performance electrified AMG models join the family, including the hybrid version of the AMG C63 and the F1-derived AMG One hypercar. As for the Mercedes-AMG GT 73e, it is expected to be the range-topping model in the GT line-up and will be positioned above the current flagship, the GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe.

Following its digital reveal on September 1, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 73e plug-in hybrid model is likely to make its public debut at the 2021 International Motor Show Germany or IAA Munich. The new performance hybrid coupe will share the stage with the company new all-electric flagship the EQS and the new EQE electric sedan.
