Mercedes has released the first details about the 2015 CLS and CLS Shooting Brake. The company is all set to introduce the car later this year and as one can see the facelifted model will be offered with Multibeam LED headlamps.
The technology used on the headlamps automatically and optimally adjust the light distribution more precisely than before. The headlamps consist of 24 individually-controlled LEDs that are adjusted a 100 times per second using a camera and four control units.
This system is intelligent enough to detect oncoming traffic and vehicles in front of the CLS and automatically adjust the light beam. Mercedes, infact says that the system is so advanced that the high-beams can be used at all times without irritating or even endangering other road users.
The Multibeam LED headlights also use the camera to detect upcoming bends and illuminate them well ahead of time. The advancement in technology is such that it also uses navigation data to detect upcoming roundabouts thus providing maximum visibility to the driver.
According to Mercedes R&D boss Dr Thomas Weber, "With Multibeam LED technology the headlamps now are able to react even more quickly, more precisely and individually to changing traffic conditions. On top of this, there are expanded functions of which a driver will become directly aware, such as anticipatory camera-based curve recognition with the active light function. With such features Mercedes-Benz once again is demonstrating its role as an innovation leader in the automobile industry."
This is just one of the features that will make its way into the new CLS and chances are that the car will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
