Hyundai Elite i20 Launch - Live Coverage

It's definietly a big day for both, Hyundai and the Indian premium hatchback segment, as the i20 - one of the most popular cars in its league - is all set to enter its second-generation in India. What makes it an even more special news is the fact that it's India that will host the global debut for the new-generation model of the hatchback, which was earlier expected to happen at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
Hyundai India is busy with last minute preparation for the launch event, which is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM. Stay tuned and keep refreshing the page.
12:05: The launch event of the new-gen model of the i20 - the Elite i20 finally begins. Since, it's a global product, the same car will be launched in different parts of the world.
12: 06: Mr. B S Seo, Managing Director & CEO, HMIL is on stage to talk about the all-new Hyundai Elite i20.
12:08: The Elite i20 is a world-class product designed, developed nd engineered to excellence to deliver value beyond expectations., says Mr. B S Seo.
12:11: Hyundai has high expectations from the New Govt of India led by Mr. Modi. This is a right opportunity for Mr. Modi to establish good relationship with South Korea., says Hyundai official.
12:12: Mr. Jin Kim, Sr. Director, Asia-Pacific & Middle East, Hyundai is now on stage to address the media. He says that India is the most convincing and promising country.
12:15: We always bring our global products first to India, e.g. Hyundai Grand i10, Hyudai Xcent and now the new-gen i20 - the Elite i20., says Mr. Kim.
12:16: With the launch of the Elite i20, Hyundai India promises to deliver the world-class products to India., adds Mr. Kim.
12:17: Hyundai India's brand ambassador, Mr. Shahrukh Khan wishes Hyundai India a great success in future.
12:21: Hyundai's design head is on stage to explain the design philosophy of the new Elite i20. The new-en model is based on company's 'Fluidic Sculpture 2.0' design philosophy.
12:23: The new Elite i20 has been designed at Hyundai Motor's Design Centre Europe in Russelsheim, Germany.
12:24: The front-fascia of the car gets the company's new signature hexagonal grille and a new thin horizontal strip that meets the head-lamps.

12:32: Hyundai Elite i20 has design DNA and aesthetics of a premium car. It takes its inspiration from the Hyundai's super-luxury Genesis coupe.

12:50: The Elite i20 is available with two engine options - 1.2-litre Kappa2 petrol and 1.4-litre CRDi diesel, capable of churning out a maximum power output of 83bhp and 89bhp, respectively. The new Elite i20 will not get the 1.4-litre petrol mill which was on offer with the old model.

1:05: And here comes the pricing. The new Elite i20's entry-level variant is priced at Rs 4.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), almost the same price as the discontinued model.
