BMW Motorrad's India entry has been a much-debated affair, and so has the introduction of the G 310 R and the recently G 310 GS. Nevertheless, ending all speculations, the German motorcycle giant has officially confirmed that the new entry-level G series models will be making their way to India in 2017.
In a tweet, BMW Motorrad has said that the new G 310 R will be launched in India in Spring 2017 (March-May period), while the G 310 GS adventure tourer will arrive in the second half of next year. Going by previous reports, both models will be sold via standalone BMW Motorrad dealerships as well as the BMW car dealerships across the country. The premium motorcycles will also make it to showrooms next year, backed by after sales and service support.

BMW G 310 RThe TVS-BMW alliance has spawned three motorcycles since it was announced in 2014 comprising the BMW G 310 R, TVS Akula 310 Concept and the G 310 GS that made its debut at EICMA this year. The Akula 310 is also slated to make its debut next year, as confirmed by TVS, and will be launched during the February-March period. All models will be locally manufactured at the TVS Hosur-based plant in the country and exported globally.

TVS Akula 310 Concept
All three motorcycles will draw power from the 313cc water-cooled, single-cylinder Euro4 compliant engine. On the BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS, the motor is tuned to produce 34bhp of power at 9500rpm and 28Nm of torque at 7500rpm, while paired to a 6-speed gearbox. TVS is yet to reveal specifications for the production-ready Akula 310.

BMW G 310 GS
BMW Motorrad's official entry to India was first announced at the 2016 Auto Expo and is expected to be a game changer in the sub-500cc segment. The G 310 R will be rivaling the new KTM 390 Duke, Mahindra Mojo, Kawasaki Z250 and the likes in the segment; whereas the G 310 GS will be one of the first offerings in the quarter-litre adventure tourer segment and will primarily take on the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
Certainly then, BMW Motorrad will be making its presence felt from the start of 2017. However, expect more details on the models to arrive only then.
