Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, "The second generation of the all-new BMW S 1000 R is designed as a power-packed roadster with supreme riding dynamics, athletic character combined with maximum safety and everyday practicality. We are delighted to offer yet another masterpiece for riding enthusiasts in India. It is a unique blend between fast sporty runs and track day fun."

It is BMW's flagship naked sport motorcycle and is based on the S 1000 RR. In fact, it uses the same engine, frame and swingarm as the RR. The motorcycle gets a completely new design, the biggest change being the new headlight with a daytime running light placed right across, which is similar to what we seen on other BMW naked motorcycles, like the F 900 R and the G 310 R. The body panels are all new too, and now give a more generic look to the motorcycle as opposed to the more distinct design that the previous-generation model had, especially with the asymmetrical headlights.

The new S 1000 R gets a flex-frame chassis which is lighter than before and the engine is now a load-bearing element. The motorcycle has a kerb weight of 199 kg which is 6.5 kg less compared to the previous generation model. With the optional dynamics and comfort package, the new S 1000 R weighs 202 kg. Up front, the motorcycle gets 45 mm upside down forks and at the rear, there is a double-sided underslung Aluminium swingarm with a central monoshock. The bike gets twin 320 mm disc brakes up front with radial 4-piston fixed callipers and a single 220 mm disc at the rear with a single piston floating calliper.

(The new S 1000 R gets a new 6.5-inch TFT screen with smartphone connectivity and turn by turn navigation)
In terms of electronics, the naked roadster gets a six-axis inertial measurement unit with dynamic traction control and ABS Pro as standard fitments. There are three riding modes as standard which are rain, road and dynamic. Additionally, one can also opt for the Riding modes 'Pro' package which has a configurable 'dynamic pro' mode along with 'engine drag torque control', 'power wheelie' and 'dynamic brake control' functions along with ABS Pro.

(The BMW S 1000 R also gets an M Sport variant with optional fitments and a M Motorsport inspired colour scheme)
The new-gen BMW S 1000 R continues to get a 999 cc in-line 4-cylinder engine that now makes 162 bhp at 11,000 rpm along with peak torque of 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm. BMW says that at least 80 Nm of torque is available from 3,000 rpm. The engine speed is reduced by 8 per cent and the fuel efficiency goes up by 8 per cent too. The torque curve has been kept linear for better performance and ease of riding. The engine itself is now 5 kg lighter. The top speed of the motorcycle is over 250 kmph and the 0-100 kmph sprint takes a scant 3.2 seconds.

BMW Financial Services India will offer customised and flexible financial solutions as well. Customers can also get their loans pre-approved prior to delivery. The motorcycle gets a standard warranty for 'three years, unlimited kilometres', with an option to extend the warranty to fourth and fifth year. BMW also offers Road-Side Assistance which is a 24x7 365 days package as well.
