Car Sales July 2021: Maruti Suzuki Registers 50 Per Cent Growth Year-On-Year

Maruti Suzuki reported total sales of 162,462 units in July 2021, registering a 50.34 per cent growth year-on-year. In comparison, the automaker sold 108,064 units in July 2020. Maruti's domestic sales last month stood at 136,500 units, while sales to other OEMs stood at 4738 units. Exports, on the other hand, accounted for 21,224 units in July this year. While the automaker recorded strong year-on-year growth, the company did say that the comparison wasn't fair owing to the low base due to the pandemic related disruptions. Sales still remain low when compared to the previous high recorded in July 2018. With respect to month-on-month growth, Maruti Suzuki saw marginal growth in volumes 10.24 per cent with 147,368 units sold in June 2021.

Sales for the A-segment cars like the Alto and S-Presso stood at 19,685 units, an uptick of 14 per cent when compared to 17,258 units sold in July last year. Meanwhile, the B-segment comprising Wagon R, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire and Tour S reported total sales of 70,268 units, witnessing a 36.37 per cent growth over 51,529 units sold in July 2020.

In the UV segment, sales of the Ertiga, XL6 S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and the Gypsy stood at 32,272 units, a growth of 68 per cent, up from 19,177 units sold in July 2020. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz's sales stood at 1450 units last month, growth by 11 per cent when compared to 1303 units sold during the same period last year.

Lastly, exports saw a massive surge of 214 per cent for Maruti Suzuki in July 2021, as the company shipped 21,224 units overseas. In contrast, the automaker exported just 6757 units in July 2020. Do note, there were more lockdown-related restrictions last year that prompted the drop in export numbers.
