Ford Recalls 550,000 Units Of Fusion And Escape SUV In North America

American carmaker, Ford has issued two safety recalls in North America on the select models of the Ford Fusion and Ford Escape vehicles to replace the shifter cable bushings, which could result in unintended vehicle movement. The company is recalling approximately 550,000 units, produced between the 2013- 2016, includes 504,182 units in the United States, 36,887 units in Canada, and 8,332 units in Mexico. Ford also said that the dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing at no cost to the customer.

According to Ford, the bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may detach from the transmission, while a degraded shifter cable bushing that detaches from the transmission may allow the transmission to be in a gear state different than the gear shift position selected by the driver. This could allow the driver to move the shift lever to 'Park' and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in 'Park', with no warning message or audible chime. If the parking brake is not applied, a degraded shifter cable bushing that detaches from the transmission could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

It also affects the Ford Fusion vehicles built at Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly Plant between May 15, 2013 and September 15, 2013 and June 2, 2014 and August 31, 2015. Moreover, the Ford Escape vehicles built at Louisville Assembly Plant between May 15, 2013 and September 15, 2013 are also affected.
