Harley-Davidson India Leads Market For Sixth Consecutive Year

- Harley-Davidson has 60 per cent market share in 601+cc segment
- 24 Harley-Davidson dealerships in 21 cities across India
- 13 models offered in existing H-D line-up
Harley-Davidson India has completed six successful years and continues to lead the premium two-wheeler market by holding 60 per cent market share in the 601+cc motorcycle segment. Harley-Davidson India's market share is as per Society of India Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The company said in a release that Harley-Davidson India will remain focussed on bringing new riders into the sport of motorcycling while broadening brand appeal through an expansion strategy, quality motorcycles and key initiatives like Legend on Tour, Passport to Freedom, Harley Rock Riders and Discover More campaign.

"In 2016, we created powerful connections with new riders and strengthened our bond with our existing riders through our customer-led outreach. We are confident that our focused strategy, passion for our brand and progress on key initiatives make us strong and well-positioned for India's dynamic market. With 24 outlets in 21 cities and 60 per cent market share, we are looking to take the momentum forward into the years to come," said Vikram Pawah, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson India.

Earlier this year, Harley-Davidson India introduced the 1200 Custom in the India market and launched its 2017 model-year lineup with two new models - Harley-Davidson Roadster and Road Glide Special. The Harley-Davidson Touring range has also been upgraded with the all-new Milwaukee Eight engine and the 2017 models also come equipped with ABS.
According to SIAM data, Harley-Davidson India sold 2,470 motorcycles in the April-October 2016 period, taking a huge advantage over other premium bike players, including big names like Kawasaki and Triumph. India Kawasaki is in second place with 870 bikes sold in the same period, while Triumph Motorcycles sold 750 bikes in the same period, taking third place. Harley-Davidson also leads the sales numbers in bikes costing Rs 5 lakh or more, selling 901 units in the same period, while Kawasaki with 761 bikes and Triumph with 750 bikes are trying to grab a larger share of the market.

In 2016, Harley-Davidson also launched the Harley-Davidson Financial Services Program that offers customised financing solutions with flexible and attractive rates, terms and EMIs for riders to finance their dream motorcycle. In 2016, Harley-Davidson expanded its dealership footprint by opening new dealerships in Coimbatore, Lucknow, Calicut, Guwahati and Ludhiana. Harley-Davidson also launched an exclusive merchandise showroom at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.
With its headquarters in Gurgaon, Harley-Davidson India commenced operations in August 2009 and appointed its first dealership in July 2010. In India, Harley-Davidson offers 13 models in the existing line-up, in addition to a full range of genuine parts, accessories and general merchandise available through its authorised dealerships.
