Hyundai To Expand Production Capacity By 2019 With No Future Investment

- Hyundai will increase production capacity from 713,000 to 750,000 units
- Hyundai has implemented 'Smart Manufacturing 4.0 Practice'
- Hyundai aims to roll out its 10 millionth car in India by early 2021
Hyundai Motor India today announced that it will be increasing its production capacity at its Chennai plant in 2019, using smart engineering. The company claims that the expansion will require no additional investments and the production capacity will be increased from 713,000 units to 750,000 units. Hyundai says that its Sriperumbudur-based manufacturing facility is future ready and is equipped with next-gen technology, including over 590 Generation 4 Robots, Quality and testing capabilities and flexible engine plants, which will allow the company to expand with zero future investment.
Commenting on the plants future readiness and capacity expansion, Y K Koo, MD and CEO, Hyundai India, said, "As a young and dynamic brand, Hyundai has implemented 'Smart Manufacturing 4.0 Practice', with focus on digitalisation, big data and data analytics to produce superior and 'Zero Defect Cars' with robust and fool-proof quality checks and assurance systems. At our plant, the seamless synergy between human intelligence and precision of machine is a combination of science and arts to create the finest cars that are loved by the customers across the world."
It was just in June this year that Hyundai India rolled out its 8 millionth cars in India, which was a Hyundai Creta. Right now, the carmaker is aiming to breach the 10 million units mark by early 2021. And the expansion of its production capacity is one of the key measures in achieving that target. In addition to that, the company also mentioned that keeping up with the Government's vision to bring electric vehicles in India, Hyundai's smart plant is now gearing up to produce electric vehicles as well, and its first electric SUV, most likely the Kona Electric, will come by 2020.
